- TransmissionThe transmission case and internal parts, the torque converter, valve body and, on most plans, the transmission control module. Automatic, manual, CVT and dual-clutch units are all eligible.
- Hybrid and EV componentsThe inverter, electric drive motor, onboard charger, DC-DC converter and battery cooling pump.
- Transfer case and 4WDThe transfer case and its internal parts, the center coupling on all-wheel-drive vehicles, locking hubs and the 4WD actuator.

How much factory warranty is left on your Sorento?
Estimate only, assuming the car was first sold early in its model year. Your in-service date is on your registration or available from a dealer.
Kia Sorento factory warranty
New Kia vehicles typically come with basic coverage for 5 years or 60,000 miles and powertrain coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage starts on the date the vehicle was first sold. Terms can differ by model year, so confirm yours in the warranty booklet or with a Kia dealer.
The long powertrain term applies to the original owner. If you bought your Kia Sorento used, the powertrain coverage that transfers to you is generally shorter.
Why body style matters
SUVs carry more weight than cars and many have all-wheel drive, which adds a transfer case or coupling, a rear differential and extra axle shafts. Power liftgates, third-row climate control and panoramic roofs add electrical parts that sit outside powertrain coverage.
Turbocharged engine
A turbocharger spins at very high speed and runs hot. Turbo failure, wastegate and boost-control faults, intercooler leaks and carbon build-up on direct-injection engines are the common problems. Check that the turbocharger is named in the contract, because some basic powertrain plans leave it out.
Hybrid system
A hybrid adds a high-voltage battery, an inverter, one or more motor-generators and an electric air-conditioning compressor. The hybrid battery usually has its own long factory warranty. Many extended plans exclude the battery but cover the inverter and motors, so read that section carefully.
Plug-in hybrid system
A plug-in hybrid has the parts of a gas car and of an electric car: engine, transmission, a larger battery, an onboard charger and a charge port. Ask specifically whether the onboard charger and high-voltage components are covered.
About Kia
Kia's 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty covers the original owner. Second owners generally get powertrain coverage only to 5 years or 60,000 miles from the original sale date, so used-Kia buyers often have less coverage than they expect.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Kia Sorento eligible for extended coverage?
Eligibility depends on the vehicle's year and mileage, and each provider sets its own limits.
Which coverage level fits a Kia Sorento?
If the turbocharged engine and transmission are your main concern, a powertrain plan covers them. If you also want air conditioning, electrical parts and electronics covered, look at a mid-level or comprehensive plan.
How much does a Kia Sorento extended warranty cost?
Price depends on the model year, mileage, coverage level, deductible and your ZIP code. Request a quote with your details for an actual price.
