What is covered
The engine block, cylinder heads and the internally lubricated parts inside them: pistons, crankshaft, camshafts, timing chain, oil pump and valve train.
What is usually not covered
Seals and gaskets are sometimes covered only on higher tiers or only when replaced as part of a covered repair. Damage from overheating or running low on oil is commonly excluded, as is anything caused by missed maintenance.
Which plan level includes it
Typical level: Powertrain. Providers draw the lines differently, so confirm that this component group is listed in the contract you are considering.
Worth knowing. Keep your oil-change receipts. If an engine claim is filed, the administrator will usually ask for maintenance records.
