FAQs
Frequently asked questions
What is a vehicle service contract?
An agreement, bought separately from the vehicle, that pays for covered repairs after the manufacturer's warranty ends. It is commonly called an extended warranty.
What is a home warranty?
A service contract that pays to repair or replace home systems and appliances that fail from normal wear.
Who pays my claims?
The provider named in your contract. Warranty Wizards markets plans from third-party providers and is not the obligor or administrator.
Is there a waiting period?
Most contracts have one. Thirty days is common for home plans, and 30 days and 1,000 miles for auto plans.
Are pre-existing problems covered?
No. Failures that existed before coverage started are excluded from both auto and home contracts.
Can I cancel and get a refund?
Generally yes. Refund amounts depend on the contract and on your state's rules, and are usually pro-rated after an initial period.
Can I transfer my auto plan if I sell the car?
Many plans can be transferred to a private buyer, sometimes for a fee. Check the transfer section of the contract.
Do you cover electric and hybrid vehicles?
Some providers do. Tell us the exact model and year and we check which plans apply.
Do I need maintenance records?
Yes. Keep receipts for oil changes and scheduled maintenance. Administrators can ask for them when a claim is filed.
Is a service contract insurance?
No. It is a contract for repairs. It does not replace auto insurance or homeowners insurance.
